How to Reduce Your Blog Bounce Rate

In my previous post, "how to retarget loss traffic so as to regain audience and make more sales", I made a brief discussion on what I think bounce rate is. According to Google analytic, it is said to be the percentage of single-page visitors (A visitor that visits your blog page then bounces off immediately) to a blog.

Reduce high blog bounce rate

Reasons why visitors bounce off your page

Visitors don't just feel they have to come to your website and zoom off immediately. They came for something important and I am sure they have their reasons for taking the action they took. In my own view, these might be few of the causes why such occur

  • The visitor might find the website/blog difficult to use
  • The visitor might not find what s(he) is looking for

How can Bounce Rate be reduced?

From my own perspective, below are the listed solutions.

  1. Blog Loading Speed
  2. Easy Usability of the blog/design
  3. Great content
  4. Internal linking to blog post
  5. Mobile Friendly

Blog Loading Speed: Ohhhh yeah... This is really my first point. Imagine you are been referred to a blog and it took minute(s) to load, what will you do? Bounce off, I am sure. There are many blogs that have the contents your visitor is looking for.  It's a competitive market, you need to beat your competitors and that's why you need to work on blog loading speed so as to keep your traffic and in turn keep your blog alive. Here are few tips on how to improve your blog loading speed
  • Number of posts on the homepage should be reduced
  • 3rd party JavaScript, CSS and Links should be kept minimal
  • Images size should be reduced and well optimized
Easy Usability of the Blog/Design: After the loading speed has been passed, the next thing the visitor take notice of is how the blog looks like: the design, how complicated or simple but professional it is, how easy is it to navigate around your pages. These are what the visitors keep in mind the first time they visit a blog even before checking out the contents. Here are tips for easy usability of your blog by the visitors.
  • Get Professional designs from professional bloggers
  • Check to see if all navigation links are in good conditions (not broken)
Great Contents: After the Design test is now passed, the visitor then check what quality of contents you've got. Me talking about great content here does not only mean writing a unique content or randomly fixing keywords into blog posts but how it carries the reader along, how satisfying it is to the blog reader's mind. To write a great content, the reader should be kept in mind while the blog writer writes with his heart. The contents itself should give reasons to the visitor why he/she must stay to navigate around your blog for more interesting articles.
  • Be relaxed while writing a post: Write from your heart
  • Feel your Audience
Internal linking to Previous Posts: It is never professional to write a post without pointing to other one or two posts in your main post. Not linking makes the page itself looks stagnant. Linking to other blog posts make the visitors navigate your blog as soon as he/she finds the current post useful.
  • Re-edit old posts and create links to other posts from your blog
Mobile Friendly: Yes, your blog must be responsive. It is not new that most traffic comes from mobile phones. How will it be if your blog is not responsive enough to display clearly on mobile phones, then it will be a big blow on the blog owner's face. To avoid higher bounce rate, your blog/website needs to be more mobile friendly.

Now that I have written the golden tips on how to reduce your blog bounce rate, It is now left for you to implement it and see what outcome you get out of it.
